The Process
Endodontic patients can receive one of the two types of vital pulp therapies. Both the treatments include pulp capping. The two processes include:
- Direct Pulp Capping: Also known as pulpotomy, this is performed if there is infection or exposure of the dental pulp. Our endodontist will remove the coronal pulp before placing a protective agent over the exposed interior. It helps promote the regeneration of the dentin-pulp complex and the root will keep developing.
- Indirect Pulp Capping: This vital pulp therapy involves our endodontist placing protective layers atop the thinning dentin. This supports the recovery of almost exposed pulp tissue without additional risks.
